How to choose the right activity for your children? ☝❓

When looking for the right activity groups for our children, we can often get lost in it. But don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place! In our guide, we present 10 tips straight from parents on how to find the best club for your little ones. Follow us to find out how to make the choice a fun.

1. The activity must be fun for the children. Give the children freedom of choice. It’s important to let them choose according to their interests, not their parents’ wishes. A good activity club is about positive experience and friendship, not about what the parents like. Listen to your child’s interests and let them choose for themselves, even at the cost of switching between several clubs initially and perhaps only staying in each for a short time. But it’s worth it.

2. They must be able to do it. ✌️ Consider the age of the child. Choose according to your children’s skills. For example, early specialization in one sport is not good and rather harmful, according to experts. Emphasise general preparation and a variety of activities, which will not overload children, help to keep them motivated and reduce the risk of injury. If a child picks a specific sport later on, it is more likely that they will not tire of it and will enjoy it throughout their life. Our coaches can help you choose the right sport for your child.

3. Be adaptable and don’t resist changes. According to psychologists, it is important for children to have the opportunity to try as many different activities as possible. This gives them a chance to find out their strengths.

4. Choose carefully and don’t overload the kid. It’s better to choose fewer clubs; for young children two a week is enough. For the older ones, add another one, but always let them have enough free time and weekends to relax as needed. Clubs should not start at the same time as the school year, when children are already having to cope with a lot of new stuff and responsibilities. Try a new club in the mid-year, perhaps.

5. Be patient. When you place your child in a club, give him some time. The results won’t show up right away. Sometimes it can take weeks or even months to see if it’s a good choice for them.

6. Timing and availability. For sports clubs, consider whether the family program can handle tournaments or competitions. Think also about summer: find out if the club runs summer events or camps. Attending a camp with a group to which your child already belongs is much easier than fitting into a new group. Most camps are run by organisations that work with children all year round and are often more affordable.

7. How to tell a club is good? By friendly instructors or by price? It’s important that the kids are led by real professionals! Choose a club that picks its coaches carefully, taking into account their experience and their attitude towards children. It is common nowadays for children’s clubs to have websites and galleries of their activities. Also check online reviews or ask other parents.

8. Get the kids moving! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💨 Lift them up from tablets and mobiles! Show them that physical activity is an irreplaceable part of life and brings joy and many benefits. After all, we want our kids to grow up healthy, right? And trust that exercise will help them to do that. 💪 Moreover, through sports, children learn social skills and strengthen their body and mind. And looking to the future, a recent research shows that kids who are physically active on a regular basis are more successful in life. So what do you think?

9. Calculate your costs. Activities for children can be expensive. Be sure you can afford the club and that you are getting good value for your money. Some clubs offer trial classes (at the BOGI we have the whole first week free). Only if you are happy you can consider making a binding application.

10. Take a visit to the club. It is important to visit the activity club to get an insight into the atmosphere before making a decision. We recommend you to go to the first class with the children, talk to the instructor and find out as much information as possible about how the club works.
